Newsgroup download speed (non-NTL)

Daft question of the day:

If my newsgroup provider permits 3xchannels at 1.5mb each and I'm on a 600k line the max (ish) I'll get in is 73.2k/sec am I better just downloading on 1 channel (if I still get a 73.2k/sec max out) or using the 3?

what client are you using Tricky, it might depend on that, also on how you prefer to use newsgroups.

For example using outlook express you might want to set up 3 channels, simultaneously downloading, but in a client where you can scan the groups & 'mark for download', I would assume you could be just as well off with a single channel?

Re: Newsgroup download speed (non-NTL)

Sorry, when you say 3 x 1.5mb do you mean 3 x 1.5M bits p/s or 3 x 1.5 M bytes p/s or something else ?

Re: Newsgroup download speed (non-NTL)

Then it depends on your client but I would think that if possible speading across three will work better. If more than a few people are downloading at the same time then you are not going to get the maximum by any method (3 x 1.5Mbps is 7 x 600k users with a little bit to spare).
