Found this for website but need some advice.
Hi all, i found another forum company but need some advice about it.
First of all: How would i go about loading it to my webspace?
Second: Do i need MySQL and PHP?
Cheers
WNA
Also i currently have 9 registered members on my current board. Now how can i move the accounts over without them having to re register?

Re: Found this for website but need some advice.
It depends on the forum software as to whether you need php and mysql...
As far as getting it working and uploaded.. you'll need an ftp client (and ftp access to your webspace )
you may well need to play with some "chmod" changes.. which are effectively file permissions.
If you need help, let me know and i'll give you a hand..
Also, if you're trying to set up a forum using php/mysql on your NTL webspace.. i'll save you the trouble of finding out that it doesn't work.. because you'll have no scripting support.
On the other hand, If you ask nicely i might be able to set up a forum for you.. but we can discuss the details

Re: Found this for website but need some advice.
ok.. just read your edits..
1. depends on where it is now and where it's going
2. yes you will if you use myBB (i'd recommend invisionboard myself for a free BB)
you should be able to move your accounts.. but that depends a lot on a) what board you're running right now and b) whether some kind soul has written a script to do it for your forum software

Re: Found this for website but need some advice.
I took the easy way out - my Linux box has been "retired" to under the spare bed to make room for the Chrimbo tree but wanted to play
I d'loaded EasyPHP - comes with PHP, mySQL and Apache pre-configured (you can change it all later, it just installs into 1 directory) and then d/loaded phpBB (dead basic forum software) - installed straight into the www directory in apache and tested it all locally before uploading it, just to make sure it all worked & I knew what I was doing...
I found it dead simple to do, no problems at all, forums are nicely modded as well now! If I can do it, anyone can
Good luck!

Re: Found this for website but need some advice.
:/ i've googled for a while to find out if an import/export script exists.. but no joy i'm afraid.. my only suggestion is to ask on the developer forum to see if one of the myBB programmers knows of a way to do it

In that case i wouldn't worry about it. The only reason i wanted to change was because of the ad banners.

Re: Found this for website but need some advice.
surely 9 users is not a big logistic operation to get registered on a new install though?
