slow download speeds off news groups

i wonder if anyone can help me for the past 3 days now when im downloading off news groups its going at 120kbs in the morning then at about 3 pm the speed drops to 10kbs and keeps at this all night until about 7 am the next day

Welcome to the wonderful world of NTL newsgroups!

It slows down in the evening because the world and his dog login after 7 o'clock. There is currently a trial going on to improve the service but when that will be complete and the changes implemented is anyone guess.

this was off clara news not the ntl servers i ran the download speed tester and it said it was 33kbs when i have a 1mb connection

The NTL enhancement Trial has been temp posponed till after the new year, there is a problem with the NTL newsgroups and NTL are aware of it my guess is that it will probably be fix just intime before the trial starts next year.

if you goto the group claranet.news-service (on the claranet news groups) you will probably find out why claranet have a speed problem on the news server your downloading from.
I'm told they are upgrading their news servers at the moment transfering things across from one to another (claranet info supplied by a friend)
