Advertising opportunities - are they kosher?

I've recently received two different e-mails from companies looking to purchase advertising space on two of my websites. The companies are called Merger Marketing and ZTMC Inc. Has anyone heard anything about these, and how much can these "opportunities" be trusted. I'm usually quite cynical about such cold calling e-mails.

Re: Advertising opportunities - are they kosher?

I would say it depends on how they are worded and if they appear to be sent specifically to you/your site or to thousands.

I've had several similar emails in relation to sites I run, and generally I would say steer clear of anything that uses the word "opportunity" or seems to bear little relevance to your site.

Perhaps you can post some of the text, just out of interest.

I doubt they're in the UK, especially with an Inc. after the name.

Sounds like a scam on the surface, but what's to lose? Reply saying you're happy for their adverts to appear on your website, payment in advance, cost $2,000 per month!
