Newsgroup Search Software

I've been using Newsrover for the free 50 days trial (and I think it's good but it's not for me) One excellent feature of this software is being able to search newsgroup (presumably using their index server?)

It allows search for filenames (useful!), text in headers, body etc.

Anyone know of a free piece of software that'll do the same or am I going to have to buy Newsrover just for the search function? ($33)

Re: Newsgroup Search Software

A lot of news readers have a built in search facility. Haven't used one in a while though I find Google's group search functions good enough. Are you looking for a seperate piece of software or an integrated newsreader?

Forte Agent

http://www.forteinc.com/agent/index.php

has a search facility similar to the one you describe, but I'm not sure how functional it is in the free version? Plus the free version does not decode yEnc, but it may be worth a look?

Re: Newsgroup Search Software

Grabit is pretty good - Downside I've found is that you 1st need to select the group and then download the headers. Newsrover would search all the groups for you without you having to select each one. Therefore making it easier to find that obscure post
