Invision, vBulletin, phpbb?
OK, I want to learn some php / sql - so I thought the ideal way would be to create a forum. I have a topic idea in mind, but want to know what would be the easiest one to start with.
I assume I will need my provider to support php / slq /mysql / other services?
Any advice for me?

Re: Invision, vBulletin, phpbb?
Could go for I-Web as a host theyre sposed to be good, one I can certainly recommend from experience is www.hostforweb.com - PHPBB is totally free, IBP costs and vBulletin costs even more!
As for books, check out the PHP Bible by Converse-Park, I learnt PHP using it! And there's an abundance of information available online

Thanks for the advice!
I already have an ISP - but I will probably need to add some db service.
So phpbb is free? Looks like my choice has been made!

Who is your current webhost? (And yes it needs to support PHP & MySQL)

Aruba.it - I think I can add mysql for €7p/year or MSSQL for €10p/year.

Re: Invision, vBulletin, phpbb?
This book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...110727-7748704 Is what I learnt from. Very good Authors, I beleive there's a new one for PHP 5. MySQL isnt THAT different from MsSQL, will just take a few adjustments really. Obviously along with that book there's a full online documentation for PHP on their site at www.php.net including Reader-made scripts etc.

Re: Invision, vBulletin, phpbb?
Before you pay for anything, if you have the capacity at home, i would install it on a machine at home. So you can sit there and fiddle with what ever you need and really get to grips with it.
MySQL is the way to go as its free and pretty powerful

Re: Invision, vBulletin, phpbb?
Get UniformServer Here - it runs apache, php and mysql without having to installing anything!!
Then go and get PHPBB Forum Here
Both are free and should work together - and give you something to be playing around with!

Re: Invision, vBulletin, phpbb?
You could even use PHPtriad to install and run everything on a dev machine.

Does the ntl webspace support PHP & MySQL?
If not is there a free (preferably) PHP & MySQL Host?
