Re: Free FTP Web Space
Why not just go the full whack and get both? Oh and Web is NOT FTP, its a different protocol entirely.

I might be wrong............... but
FTP is File Transfer Protocol
web space is just a bit of space that files are stored on.
HTTP is Hypertext Transfer Protocol - nearly everything on the web is HTTP
So you use FTP to put your files on to the webspace, but your webspace should be HTTP
But mainly your files would be written in HTML Hyper Text Markup Language
or with saome other language.
I might be wrong......

Re: Free FTP Web Space
No ikthius, you are indeed correct. Had me wondering what you meant for a moment topcreator. FTP is just a WAY of getting your HTML and other web files onto the Webspace, and there are many free programs for this, including filezilla.

Re: Free FTP Web Space
But FTP is often not just used for uploading to web sites, what is your projected use of it Topcreator?

Re: Free FTP Web Space
My intended use of it is to save a spreadsheet to my ntl webspace so that people can access and modify it so there is always an up to date copy. I was advised that i needed some FTP webspace rather than HTTP webspace to do this and to create an FTP location in excel to this webspace.
Hope this helps

I'm not sure this will work, as you envisage, in NTL webspace.
Firstly everyone who wanted to manipulate the file would have to know your username & password & secondly, only people with NTL accounts would be able to login.
As NTL webspace does not allow 'server side' operations it is presumably not possible to run a VB or Frontpage script to allow manipulation of the file 'in place', so a user would have to download the file, amend it, then upload it back again.
- happy to be wrong on that, but I think you will need 'proper' hosted space, with options for scripting, etc, to do what you want.

Re: Free FTP Web Space
Yes, Homealone is right, NTL do not allow FTP connections outside their own IP range.
