Website Legality
Has anyone stumbled across this site on their travels http://www.b4usearch.com/
Seems if you click on people then enter a name and location it seems to hold a lot of personal information including your address and phone number in some cases.
Is this site entirely ethical and legal I wonder.
Please be warned the telephone number quoted to remove your info is charged at £1.50 per minute.
Any ideas where there are getting this info from.

Re: Website Legality
From my own name and location I can deduce they use:
1. The web (perhaps google)
2. The electoral roll (as stated on the site)
3. Directory enquiries (again, stated on the site)
Regarding legality: As far as I can see, all of this info is already available on the web. All this site does is put it together in one place?

Re: Website Legality
You can do similar searches at 192.com and also on the BT website for directory enquiries and get address info from the Royal Mail site too.
Most of it is available elswhere so I doubt it is illegal.

Re: Website Legality
As for paying for removal, you could always use these contact details
Code:
Mr. Raju Banga
282 Lordswood Road
Birmingham, WEST MIDLANDS B17 8AN
UK
0121 440 0247
0121 440 2952 [fax]
raj@b4u.co.uk
and ask to speak to their data controller, and ask them very politely to remove your details, as per the data protection act.
A quick phone call to Birmingham or sending a letter is cheaper than £1.50 p/minute

Indeed
However then they tell you they don't store the data, just pull it together straight away...

Re: Website Legality
True... which is probably what they'll tell you after you've phoned them at £1.50 p/minute too

Re: Website Legality
everyone remember, next time you fill in the electoral roll form, check the box at the bottom that says your details won't go on the public list

Re: Website Legality
192.com allowed a woman from the states to stalk me, the worst was when she turned up in the uk.
But these services still dont worry me. They should only worry you if you have a need to hide.. ie celebraty public servant etc...
