Depends what DVR you have. The only one I know of that is hackable so you can control it from the web is Tivo.

AFAIK, you can't do it on Pioneers. I suspect the reason that Tivo was hacked is partly that the machines themselves already have an expansion slot inside (to plug the network card into) and partly because the Tivo operating system is a version of Linux with customisations for Digital Video Recording.
