Opera 9 Public Beta now available
Opera has now released their Opera 9 Beta to the public.
Opera may look alittle different to most other browsers upon the initial first use, but it's highly customisable so you can make it's appearance look just like other web browsers. It's probably currently the fastest browser around at rendering webpages.

New features in Opera 9 include
Widgets - Small Web applications (multimedia, newsfeeds, games and more) that make your desktop experience more fun. Any Web developer can create their own Widgets and share them, regardless of operating system. Try the Widgets in Opera 9 by pressing F6. Look for further development of Opera Widgets in future releases.
BitTorrent - Instead of having to use a separate BitTorrent application for downloading large files, users can now simply click a torrent file and start the download.
Content blocker - Choose the content you want to view. Remove ads or images - it is up to you. Right-click on the Web page and choose "Block content".
Improved rich text editing - Take advantage of rich text editing capabilities when using the latest Web mail or blogging services.
Customize your search engines – Use your favorite search engine in the search box. Right-click on the site's search field and select "Create search" from the menu.
Thumbnail preview – It's easy to have many tabs open at once in Opera. But exactly which tab had that video you wanted? Hover any tab to see a thumbnail preview.
Site-specific preferences - Do you need to view a site in a different way or deny certain cookies? Want to block pop-ups on certain sites only? Site specific preferences hold the key

Opera leading the way .......... again
Shame so few users are willing to follow.
As SnoopZ said Opera starts life looking a little different, but is so customisable it can be made to look like almost any browser.
Note that the skins are installed on the fly (one click .. no restarts here !!) and I shall enjoy the tab previews.
The thing I like best is the copy text facility where you can choose just to copy the text or a single picture on a web page and leave out all the formatting crap that screws up your word processing applications.
The number of web sites that fail in Opera is now minimal.
Best browser around.

Not to mention that it now passes the Acid 2 test.

I use desktopx widgets better than the opera ones imo
Also if you download the vista sidebar you can use all the msn ones without the live page bloat

Now thats worth a look might have a look at V9, just been playing with the voice plugin for 8.54, a bit crude but I can see deffinite possibilities in the future and for the visually impared.

Re: Opera 9 Public Beta now available
The final beta was released yesterday.
Quote:
Opera 9 Beta 2
[May 23, 2006 — Thomas Ford] We released the second – and final – beta of Opera 9 today. This will be the last major milestone release before the final launch of Opera 9. The most notable change is to the widget UI. You'll notice that we've included widgets separately in the menu bar. If you click to manage widgets, your widgets open in a separate tab, similar to our transfer manager. From this tab, you can add new widgets, open downloaded widgets and remove widgets you don't want.

All-in-all I think Opera is foxier!
Still having some probs with java... ie when trying to relist items in ebay.

Re: Opera 9 Public Beta now available
I've been testing a website against IE, Firefox and Opera and I must say that Opera is, by far, the most impressive. Unlike the others, it even copes with a background image to an image. This is not as daft as it might sound when you consider that images might include transparency
By contrast IE is just a pile of *****e. It can't even handle some types of transparency properly. Somebody shoot it, please!
