30Gigs of Email space?
30Gigs.com
Invitations only ala Gmail when it started but just in case anyone actually needs 30gigs of inbox space
Quote:
A new web mail service launched today promising to bring users an email inbox of 30gb.
30gigs.com started off with the idea of creating an "All in one" site for the webmaster and avid computer users. According to the sites "about us" page, combining personal file storage, GD2 signatures and anonymous email all in one service, which would be free.
"Our main goal is to increase our space even further, to 50 gigs, or maybe 100 as time goes on. 30Gigs.com is still in a very heavy beta, and if you are a member, please help us to make it the best mail server there is. We will be offering a section for personal file storage (up to 30 gigs) and a GD2 signature maker to keep your email safe from spam robots. We also offer a unique feature, which allows you to send a email from any address you want."
|
One thing to think about though is that there are already a number of people questioning this service and calling it "shady". Unfortunately with such a new service it's dificult to find anything that will prove or disprove it's legitimacy as a service.
Personally I would only input the bare minimum information necessary to gain access to the service and use a throw away email address if asked for one. Currently they have cut the number of invites available per member to 3 to "restrict growth" while they test their upload system.
I can post a link to at least one invite thread on another forum but I will wait till I get the knod from the team on here before I link to another site.
Oh and be aware that if you use the service you have to email them to get off the spam list that you get put on

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
Yep that's one of the questions asked of one of the team running the service. Will be interesting to see just how heavily they have to restrict usage if everyone starts to ram files into their space

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
A free e-mail service offering 30Gb to each user.... OUCH... hard disks dont grow on trees, and im assuming they will use a raid function (probably 5) Either there gonna have a few raid farms, or a few racks of servers :S Someone has got to be sponsoring it... they have to be!!!!

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
Interesting idea
I would imagine that most people won't user anywhere near 30GB, so it's kinda theoretical storage space that they need to account for... plus most emails are text so they can be compressed significantly on their SAN.
Don't think I'll sign-up just yet... no real need for that much storage, plus I'd rather watch what happens to other punters first of all

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
I've not even used all that Gmail has to offer.
I think this may start free but eventually someone has to pay.I'm already suspicious because there is no further info than the few statements on that page.To find out more you HAVE to join and it's by invite only.
I would want more info such as who is the owner of this enterprise.

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
Personally I'm not about to give out invitations to people just in case this is yet another attempt by a company to harvest peoples details/ email addresses for sale to other companies. Until 30Gigs is proven to be safe, usable and trustworthy I'm not even going to try them myself.
I'm going to ask for valid email addresses in this thread to be spoiled so that they cannot be harvested from the thread.

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
It is a good idea not to post your email addresses on forums. Eventually you will get loads of spam because of it.
In future post a request, and if appropriate others can make contact with you via PM. Please don't pester those who may have invites to give away, they will contact you.
Requesting more than once is unlikely to get you any assistance. Duplicate posts will be removed.
I'm deleting the addys posted.

Re: 30Gigs of Email space?
Can I just add
PLEASE DO NOT PM PEOPLE WITH REQUESTS UNLESS THEY MAKE IT CLEAR IN THIS THREAD THEY HAVE INVITES TO GIVE
Just to clarify I do not have and am not giving out invitations to a service that I do not feel is quite as transparent as it should be.

Well it looks like they've disappeared: -
