URL revealed

just found this little tip, if you visit a site and you are unsure about its true status, or if it is spoofed, copy and paste this text into the address bar and click 'Enter' It will reveal the true identity of the web page URL.

javascript:alert("Actual URL address: " + location.protocol + "//" + location.hostname + "/");

Re: URL revealed

Eh?

That's worse than right-clicking and and going to properties.

Doing a right-click/properties shows the address as http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=42311 (correct).. Your way shows it as http://www.cableforum.co.uk

His method will work better if you have a obfuscated URL - then it will parse the URL and show the actual target host/domain, rather than the apparent host/domain, which the 'properties' will show.

Re: URL revealed

Good tip Iadom, easier to use the built in tools in IE7 or the extensions for Firefox though I think.
Even Google do an extension to detect phishing now
