Someone, please explain what happened here...
I've been trying to help someone on Mrs T's favourite forum who has been having Tiscali connection issues. It was solved, over the phone with someone in India apparently, by doing something to the PC's antivirus. I can't think how it helped fix what I thought was a proxy issue.
Could someone pop over there and read the thread, and then post here with a guess about what the problem and solution was?
TIA

I noticed that there was a 'buffer overrun' in that story.......there is a new exploit going round that uses a buffer overrun....if thats any help at all...

Re: Someone, please explain what happened here...
Yes, I saw that ... I don't know what her AV setup is though, so I sent her off to Symantec to do an online scan and post the results. The main issue was 'mogwai' and her inability to view websites (although she was able to ping them). It sounded like proxy trouble but then was fixed by deleting temp files and disabling AV. I'm flummoxed.

Possibly her av was aware of the buffer overrun exploit and refused to let her do anymore once it was triggered?

Possibly, although it would be a pretty big coincidence, as she never mentioned the overrun issue at all ... that was another user 'hijacking' the thread.
