simple (i think!) website question
I have had a website with NTL for a while now however I am thinking of starting to use it as a proper site (semi commercial). I know the domain name I want, and that it is available, however I have been told that if I buy the name, users will be able to locate my site using the domain but once there the browser bar will actually show my home page address instead of the domain name. Is this true and if so is there a way to resolve it (some sort of masking code perhaps)
TIA

Re: simple (i think!) website question
if you are planning on selling then you can only use your site as the shop window.
you need server space with sever side scripts to run the commercial/money side of things, and have a secure database, which can connect to the banks, so that money can be transferred.
on the domain name, you can hide your ntl address by framing the ntl address with the new domain, unfortunately this means that all pages are framed:
e.g. yourdomain.co.uk = ntlworld.com/yourname/index.html
yourdomain.co.uk = ntlworld.com/yourname/newpage.html
the yourdomain never changes

Re: simple (i think!) website question
Don't forget that using your webspace for any kind of commercial use is against their T&Cs...

Re: simple (i think!) website question
cheers for the advice, how do I frame the ntl address?
When I said semi commercial I did actually mean a shop window as the only thing I will be selling are my services and I dont intend on taking any money via the site. I Just want it t look as proffesional as possible.
thanks

Re: simple (i think!) website question
when you buy a new domain name from another site, they should give you the option to frame your normal address.

Can I recommend then you get proper hosting with proper webspace since 'looking professional' is the key to you and framing domains to redirect to free webspace doesnt really cry out 'professionalism' to me

Ditto, you can get it for as little as £10 per year (or less).

Tis only the same as you having a link to your site in your siggy. I not charging for it so I'm not sure what the problem is?
edit : looking at your sig it sort of looks like 'now on skype' is a quote taken from Luke 12:39

I make nothing from my site and I don't PM people about it without them asking.
