Open-source Microsoft Office applications?

i saw a link once somewhere (the problem is, i can't remember where, or anything) that said something about open source microsoft applications like Word and Excel etc. etc., now, i don't know much about computers and the like, but does thism mean that you can jsut go there and use the programs for free or whatever? and if so, does anyone know anything about this?

Re: Open-source Microsoft Office applications?

I think you are thinking about OpenOffice.
This is free software where if you wish you can give a donation, but you are free to download it and use it.
It is always in production and is built by people who wanted to create a free office software solution for users and not have to use Microsoft's software.
It allows you to open all of Microsoft's well known file extensions and also save in its own format and Microsoft format too.
You can also save to PDF too.

For a freebie, its pretty good !!!

You can get it here:

Re: Open-source Microsoft Office applications?

Yes, they are just called differently, eg. Spredsheet instead of Excel, and Text Document instead of MS Word.

Re: Open-source Microsoft Office applications?

While there are free and good (i recommend) it is no where near the quality of office. More open file formats and such though
