Domain name
Finally got rid of my host but i still own my domain until 22nd of January 2007.
Is it easy to transfer the domain to a provider such as i-web solutions? I've heard tale of having to "park" first but i don't know what this entails.
I have my nominet certificate if that helps ?
Cheers.

Re: Domain name
Moving a domain can be easy, sometimes it can be hard. That depends on the original hosts. Shouldn't be any need to "park" it. Just setup your new host and get the old one to release the tags so they can point at the new host's server. You new host should be able to assist you in this.

Re: Domain name
Basically you create a hosting account with I-Web or whoever you choose and point the DNS servers of the domain to the ones that I-Web should give you.

Re: Domain name
I have the DNS settings and web server address so i reckon i'll go with (much cheaper for similar) i-web offer
I only hope they aren't as big a dissapointment as my last host.

Re: Domain name
I own a Virtual Private Server with HostForWeb.com which means I can sell hosting accounts and reseller accounts (that can sub-sell and create hosting accounts) and have full access to a Virtual Server that is a partition of a mother of a server - Quad Xeon 3.06GHz, 8GB of RAM. I get 10GB space and 300GB transfer/month for £20/month.

Re: Domain name
Hi Shabba,
Well its dead easy to move your site.... if you have control over the domain name, did you reg the domain name through the host? if so do you have access to a control panel for it where you can update the nameserver settings??? If not, im assuming its a .uk domain, you can get them to change the tag, and then move the domain to ukreg.com free of charge, where you have full control over the domain.....
Sorry to highjack, Zeph, how do you find HostForWeb's services? We quite often hear of downtime on their network, and failed backups, but the people that have good things to say about them say very good things..... kinda like chalk and cheese if you know what i mean....

Ive been with HostForWeb for nearly 2 years now only just upgraded to a VPS, downtime has been VERY minimal and their support is excellent via email and phone. The only problem Ive had with my VPS is a licensing issue at their end and they were very quick to sort it, Ive never had any major issues with them and find there prices to be very good. I hope to start offering hosting soon myself once i get myself a website sorted out.
