Re: Amazing Javascript demo
Richard, you should have said it was an amazing Firefox only demo..
I can't get it working in either IE or Opera.

Re: Amazing Javascript demo
I'm watching it now. Don't know why it's amazing though. And why does the animation keep flashing white?

Re: Amazing Javascript demo
I watched it, reminded me of the demo scenes on the amiga.
Nothing seemed ultra special, mediocre graphics, music although good quality didnt really match the images and the white flash was more out of time than in time.
But knowing nothing about java, I'm not certain of what its limitations are.

Re: Amazing Javascript demo
This is not Java, it's Javascript - the same thing which makes the menus drop down up there ^

The music was provided by Flash, bit cheeky that it didn't say that really.

I don't think that should matter as it's only the music that comes from Flash so it should still work but without the music. I suppose it just shows how temperamental Javascript can be.

Also, these "scene" demos, while very impressive (and this one is), tend to be a bit flaky when something is slightly wrong.
For instance, I am a bit of a scene fan, and used to have many PC demos, Some worked on some PCs, but as soon as you change a minor detail (such as a piece of hardware) they stop working.

Re: Amazing Javascript demo
Hello, I'm the author of Neja.
As you probably already know, it came #4 in the Browser demo competition of the Assembly 2005 in Helsinki.
Sorry. The version you saw is the party version. Read, I finished it 4 minutes before the deadline, coded one effect ( the graftal with the white squares ), put all the effects together, coded the few transitions, and did all the synch the oldschool way ( ÃÂ* la press space to add a synchro ) on party place. Afterward I figured this very version does not work on FireFox on Mac because of a problem to access the Flash movie used to replay the mp3. Even when I access it with a document.getElementById( ... ), the setVariable( ... ) function throw an error. And the demo does not start until the Flash movie has preloaded the MP3, so the demo needs Flash U__U
All the pixelated effects are made by generating some 8bits or 24bits BMP images on the fly in JavaScript, thanks to the rfc 2397 which so far is fully supported by Gecko and nothing else. The other effects are either canvas ( stretch and clip ) or slant animations.
The final version, with better/more transitions, improved speed of the 3D effects, smaller files size ( i.e. the flash movie is now 179 bytes big ^_^ ) is near to completion. I must polish the synchs as I can't bear either to see the white flashes out of synch. In an ideal world they should be in synch with the hi hats of the music. I'll also try to test it on Mac before.
For the record I'm in the Atari and PC scene since ~1989, but not quite active I must recognize.
ps: I can't resist to the Moomins. I bought a box of Muumi - Mumin biscuits in Helsinki so I felt the urge to put a moomin in Neja.
ps2: If you enjoy JavaScript demos, you should appreciate Redbug by Shingebis ( aka Gasman/Hooy-program ) which won the Browser demo.
