Collecting E-mail From UK ISP Whilst Abroad
Hi,
The boss is going to Canada at the end of the week (yay!) and wants to collect his e-mail whilst away. The ISP and e-mail servers are with BT Connect.
The options are (as I understand it):-
1) Dial in to the BT server internationally (i.e. 00 44 then the normal number).
2) Collect via an established connection (library, coffee shop etc) and access via web mail.
3) Set up a local ISP (in Canada) at their local rate and collect from BT pop servers.
Am I missing a trick? Is there another way? Assuming that the boss is staying in a house that does not have an internet connection as standard. Finally will a standard RJ11 MODEM cable fit a Canadian system?
Cheers
J

Check the BT website, Im sure most ISP's let users check their e-mails via the web and he would only need his BT username and password to log in.
If he has one of these addresses on this site, he can log in here:

Modem Cable is RJ11, not RJ45, which is for a network socket, RJ11 is standard for U.S. I beleive so i wouldve thought itd be the same in Canada, if not, im sure an adapter could be purchased.

Well, there are two ways you can do it. Via Pop (or Imap, if BT offer it) or via webmail.
You should be able to use a connection from any local ISP for this,

It is the connection to the a local ISP I am looking for a better solution for..... the e-mail part is a doddle.
Surely travelling business men don't have to a) setup an ISP for every different country they are in or b) Pay a international rate to dial back into there own UK ISP?????

(I can't believe I am about to say this)... There's always AOL (who offer local rate access all over the world).
I also did a quick google for International ISPs, and found http://www.net2roam.com
Not sure what they are like though.

Re: Collecting E-mail From UK ISP Whilst Abroad
At work we use the AT&T dialup software to get our users connected wherever they happen to be in the world. There are hundreds of POPs and regardless of where you are, there's normally one that will be classed as a local phone call.
Ofcourse, if it's a one off trip, then it's probably not worth signing up for such a service, but if people regularly make international trips, it could be worth it.
I'd also have thought that if he's staying in a decent hotel, they'd probably have a broadband or wireless connection that he could use.
