Tiscali UK to ban P2P users

1% of users are consuming 30% of the available bandwidth according to Tiscali UK.
Users will be warned 3 times about using P2P , if they continue to use P2P their service will be terminated.
Presumably the Tiscali user is typical of most ISP's users in this regard, I wonder if other ISP's will follow suit in future.

Re: Tiscali UK to ban P2P users

Do you have a link for that?

And I presume Tiscali are only interested (for now) in getting rid of this 1%, not all p2p users?

Scare mongering, Tiscali couldnt afford to lose that amount of subscribers and new customers.

the register

Quote:
"This fair usage policy automatically identifies the very small number of extremely heavy users and manages their bandwidth only during peak hours (being 6pm to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 12pm to 4pm on weekends and bank holidays), to protect the service for all our other customers. Outside peak hours, the use of the internet by these heavy users is unaffected."

It would appear that they are going through a similar routine once again.

Re: Tiscali UK to ban P2P users

Ban them, P2P is rubbish, is a gateway for malware, and is mainly used to share illegal material anyway.

Re: Tiscali UK to ban P2P users

its only during peak time. Would be different matter if an all day thing.

No doubt it's illegal off-peak too

If they treated the customers like people with varied tastes and not sales stats they might find that they got more respect anyway.

I buy CDs/films/etc and use freeware software where I can, but you can see why people download. The prices are pushing it for starters... not that that makes it right by any stretch.
