Bye bye, Thunderbird.
After years of development, Mozilla is to cut back on it's own development of Thunderbird. They are stopping releases of new versions, and will only fix bugs now.
They are essentially turning over the running of the development of thunderbird to the Open Source community.
Unfortunately, Mozilla, by their own admission, have been less than successful in getting developers to actively participate in Thunderbird development.
So, it would seem, the Thunderbird project is dead.

While I haven't really used it in the last couple of years, since we switched from using IMAP to Exchange at work, it's always been a favourite email client of mine, so I will be sad to see it go.

Re: Bye bye, Thunderbird.
That's a shame, it's been my client of choice for almost a decade now.

Re: Bye bye, Thunderbird.

Re: Bye bye, Thunderbird.
I'll continue to use it (V2.0.0.4). Just because adding new bells and whistles work has stopped doesn't automatically make it useless.
I have a number of software suites that are out of date but just upgrading for the sake of it is a game I don't play. Too expensive for a start with commercial stuff.
Run the oldest software that does the job on the best hardware you can afford. It'll be faster and less frustrating. So many people end up with the opposite and then have to spend even more money upgrading their PCs

Re: Bye bye, Thunderbird.
It is a great program and I shall continue to use it. It does everything I need it to do.

Seconded. I find it a very good, stable program and will continue to use it as long as possible.

Re: Bye bye, Thunderbird.
Although there will be no more improvements or bug fixes, security updates will still be issued. Since Thunderbird works well already, it maybe doesn't matter that no more improvements or bug fixes will be added. There's no reason to look for another program to use as far as I can see.
