1&1 web hosting orders

Was thinking of getting a short term webhosting package with 1&1 to give it a test out before I commit.

So looking at the starter linux hosting package it has two options

Yet when you select option 2 it says at the bottom

Quote:
The billing cycle for the 1&1 Starter is 12 months, payable in advance.
Prices exclude VAT.

Total Due Today: £29.88 (excl. VAT)
Is it me or are they saying they have no minimum term with option #2 yet expect you to pay a year in advance???

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

Could it be each month is payable in advance? So you pay in December for January's service?

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

Nope as they're asking for 12 months payable in advance for the "no minimum contact" package.. I think they expect you to pay then claim back if you cancel

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

Make sure you check that they support what you need on that package.
eg. php, sql, etc.

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

All their packages support php/mysql.. Just wanted a basic package to put a copy of my main website (joomla) on to test their speed as it's a world wide website.. Just don't see why I have to pay a year in advance for a "no minimum term contract"

Don't touch them with a barge pole, they are just after your money and the customer service is the worst I have come across.
Signing up is easy, terminating is the problem.
I cancelled my so called contract during the free period and it was ignored apart from an auto response, I waited a couple of days and the same thing happened again, so without further delay I deleted my card details as there were only two days to go before money was due from me to them. When they realised that the money did not arrive from me they were soon on the case, threatening legal action etc.
Anyway, in the end they relented after I had forwarded a few auto responses back to them, but it took about 3 weeks to settle the so called dispute.

I am not the only one to have had a bad experience with them either...

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

Yep I've read all the reviews hence I wasn't going to touch the trials or contracts.. Instead if you read the thread I was looking at the no contract terms. They can't be all bad otherwise you wouldn't have cableforum if you look at the very bottom of each page

I've never had any issues with them and when I needed help they answered quite quickly.

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

They are causing me a few issues with terminating etc and billing issues. Their standard billing cycle is 3monthly now (used to be 6monthly) but I guess if you pay a one off for 12 months its not bad...at least you've got it for 12months knowing that even if they are useless for the thing you want its xxGB of free online storage

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

Only problem I've had was that period in which their centre went down, CF experienced the same outage. Nothing bad to report here

Re: 1&1 web hosting orders

I have 1and1's top end VPS and it's brilliant, any time I've had to talk to someone they've been really helpful. Best bet is phone support over emails/tickets though.
