Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
Looking to buy a Business Domain & have eMail with the same company as Domain (so I get Webmail & on my Smartphone).
I will then point Domain to my server. I don't want the email accounts on the server. In case I need to move hosts.
I've only used 123-REG, any other Domain/eMail company you recommend over 123-REG? I've had no issues with 123-REG but only use them for Domains up until now.
Thanks in Advance

Re: Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
Personally I use google apps for the emails on my domains, free and simple with lots of features. Only issue is that they're now restricted to 10 email addies per account but when I joined the limit was 25 and still is for me.
http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en-GB/group/index.html
It also means that no matter where I put my hosting/register it's never an issue

I have used freeparking.co.uk since I was recommended to them by a relative, never had any problems.
Nominet (UK) domains cost £9.98 per two years and you get either just e mail forwarding or POP3 accounts as required

How would I set the eMail to Google & the Domain point to my Host?
Is it FREE for low use (not need 25GB)
What would Login address be?? webmail.domain.com ?

Re: Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
£9.98? I'm sure I've seen other companies do UK domains for less (perhaps not including emails though, but you can use Google Apps for that).
I've heard good things about 123-reg and also Heart Internet (does this count as shooting myself in the foot?).
As far as email hosting goes, another vote for Google Apps here. I don't use it personally due to the limit of 10 accounts, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind the limits on the free version.

Re: Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
I use easily.co.uk to buy my domain name. They have an email forwarding service so my real email address is a gmail one (was ntlworld.com until very recently) but no one ever knows my real address, only the one I use with the redirect. I've used easily for over 10 years now. They charge a tenner for two years.
There is a Windows Live (Hotmail) equivalent to free Google Apps. It doesn't have have the 10 user limit that Google has.

Re: Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
Follow the link I gave to you in my first post that should take you to the google apps free.. all you have to do is to point the MX dns settings to the google servers.. The login page once you have set up the system is https://mail.google.com/a/domain.com and whoever has an email address with that domain set up would simple just use a username/password.. The also allow IMAP/POP/SMTP so if you wanted to use a mail program that's not an issue. The primary account can also specify what accounts can use what like a shared calender..docs..etc..
The thing is that if you don't like it then its free and you only have to change the MX record to go elsewhere..

Does Google Apps support a 'catch all'? I only have one mailbox set up on my domain, but then use a seperate email for each site e.g. amazon@ mydomain.com etc so I can tell where I'm getting SPAM from

Yes you can specify any of the accounts to be the catch all.. That way the accounts get their own email and the catch all will get any other prefixed address as well as their own

Re: Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
I use www.123connect.co.uk for three of my web sites.
I used to use www.1and1.co.uk who used to charge me £54 per month. But 123connect charge that per year, with just a little extra for added features. They were recommended to me by one of my web developers. He said that you are far better off using a UK based server for a .co.uk site, as far as google rankings are concerned (1and1 are actually in Germany).
What I really love about them is that they are a small company. And when you have to call them, then half the time you will actually speak to Jeff (the owner), rather than a huge overseas call centre.

I use settings in Outlook to make the 'from' address look like the domain address that I buy. No one knows what my physical address is, so I can move email provider as I want. Over time I've moved my actual address from Freeserve to ntlworld to gmail and none of my contacts have known.
The reason for switching to gmail is that it can show my desired 'from' address when I send mails from my WP7.

Re: Best place for UK Domains? (inc email)
With Google Apps, can I use 1 FREE account & have domain.com addresses & also my-web.com (2x different Domains) or would I need 2x accounts set up?

It all depends on what the OP needs the domain for. If it is for e-commerce, then they would be better with a dedicated server.

You can set up multiple domains under the same account. I've though never bothered with it as I like to keep all my domains seperate.
