Which host?

Hi

I'm feeling the need to change my web host. I have been using web-mania but have recently had problems and looking around the net, things aren't looking too good for them.

I was wondering if you good folks could recommend anyone? Have been looking on here but I'm not sure whether the rankings are based on reviews or some sort of paid for advertising. Are the companies listed on this page any good?

Who do you use?
Who should I steer clear from?

Thanks.

Re: Which host?

This website uses 1&1 - see link in the footer below. I also use 1&1 for my work's websites. They seem OK by me. The NTHW websites are hosted as part of the game server rental package so that isn't a comparison.

Just looking at the weblink you suggest the prices are often the introductory offer. Base your decision on the full price chargeable once those offers expire.

The real key is what functions do you need - bandwidth, storage space, SQL, etc. That is what shows the real differences between hosting packages, even within the same host company.

Re: Which host?

We don't really need that much space or bandwidth. You make a good point, and it may be that we don't have any hosting at all but just redirect our domain to our facebook page or something like that. I currently have a domain linked to the hosting, which is used for my personal email, but if necessary I guess I can direct that to gmail or something.

Re: Which host?

I recently looked into this..

1and1 can be a bit devious with their charges and like to lock you in long term, but they do have UK/EU datacentres.

If you don't mind US hosting them Hostgator and Fatcows are supposed to be two of the best

Re: Which host?

I have used Zen internet for years, not had any problem with them at all in that time, but they are not the cheapest!! But as they say, you get what you pay for!!

You could always use hmail email server which is free to host your own email server, pretty easy to set up on an old PC if you have one lying around!

Re: Which host?

I use these guys for my mail and hosting - I've got a registered domain name with them but that gets redirected elsewhere.

Never had a problem - yet.
