Re: The Google+ Project - Register your interest
Well that Buzz thing of theirs I never got to grips with and as for the wave application what was that all about?
The only beta from Google that I tested and had success with was Gmail.
I'm willing to give it a go but only if it's easy to use..and there are enough of my friends, family etc that will use it.

I feel exactly the same way Maggy. There are times when I could cheerfully strangle Facebook but maybe the devil you know is the easier option.

I love the idea of "Circles". Should be a lot easier than the half-arsed-yet-complicated equivalent on Facebook.

I dont think this has any way of taking off.
Facebook has become the world dominant leader and Google's efforts don't bring anything dramatically revolutionary to the table.

I don't understand the beta/invite release. Google+ is in all the press yet no one can use it yet.
Surely if you want to make a new social media hub popular, you need to capitalise on the publicity?

Re: The Google+ Project - Register your interest
It is just a limited test on invite only at the moment just like Gmail was, it is only a few days old.

And Android when Nokias symbian and Windows mobile were the giants.
Sometimes it happens, I don't know about this instance though, people tend to stick with what they have got, especially if everyone else is on it too, that'll be the biggest problem for google to overcome.
It'll be interesting to see, this is google's 3rd attempt now.

I remember people saying the same thing about googles mobile OS Android.
You just never know if these things will take off or not. You use it you like it you tell a friend to join, they like it and tell a friend to join so on and so forth.

Google staff have been using it for just under six months - this is the next phase of release / beta testing.
IMHO, this will knock 25% off of facebook's IPO, or will at least delay it for a while....

Re: The Google+ Project - Register your interest
oh, the irony of phoning / conversing face to face with someone in order to inform them of another way to 'chat' to you! because meeting them, phoning them, emailing them, texting them, facebooking them, myspacing them, MSNing them, foruming them, et cetera, just isn't enough!!! the internet is so impersonal. why can't people just talk to each other?

Re: The Google+ Project - Register your interest
Because face to face is 1 to 1, whilst social networking is one/many to many/one....
And without fb, I wouldn't have regular chats with friends and family in USA, Australia, Spain, Dubai, often all at the same time.
The modern world is all about multitasking.

again, this becomes impersonal as all you're doing is broadcasting and if you broadcast, you would tent to censor and filter what is being conversed. if these people are family, or real friends, surely you would make time to talk to them 1 on 1? you can't talk to a family member about how their life is going with several other people sat there effectively listening in.... I wouldn't like to be talking to my family about things knowing other people could be reading what we're saying to each other.
i suppose my point is that I find it concerning that we (society) seem to depend more and more on technologies that remove us from personal interaction with people. instead, we seem to be becoming more content with words on a screen as a way of having a 'meaningful conversation'. it just seems wrong to me. the younger generations will inevitably find themselves ONLY talking to others in this fashion if current trends continue. not only that, but everything about oneself is open for anyone to see as people are intent on blogging every move they make these days. i think the term 'Friend' has been somewhat trivialised by Facebook and the such. shame.
