Re: Newsgroup Software
For software i use Newsleecher which is good and i also hear Newsbin is good too, although both aren't free unless you can find a work around!
Too access newsgroups i now use Supernews and their current offer is $9.99 from this link.

Re: Newsgroup Software
For binary groups I've always used Newsbin, bought it coming upto 10 years ago when it was V3, now they're just about the officially release V6 which is a great bit of software.
Currently they're doing a one time special price of $15 with free upgrades for life. Registered members have access to all the betas as well

Re: Newsgroup Software
Newsleecher's pretty much unbeatable IMO.
Loads NZB's and auto-pauses the pars if not needed then when downloaded, it extracts the file from the rars and deletes them. Not that doing this manually is hard work, but I set a d/l going to my server drive and go and sit in the lounge. When I want to watch it on the TV it's there, repaired and extracted ready to play. Perfect piece of software.

Re: Newsgroup Software
I don't know of any apart from Virgins, although i wouldn't call it good with what it offers.
What do you use at the moment?

Re: Newsgroup Software
It's a vast differnce between free and premium usenet suppliers..
Free tends to be 3-7 days retention with a lot of incompletes
Premium (starting about 7-10$ a month) tend to have 1000+ days retention and 99.9% complete

Re: Newsgroup Software
I've had quite a few problems with grabit not starting properly, not unpacking as it should etc. I quite like SABnzbd as a client

Re: Newsgroup Software
I use Xnews for casual reading but Newsleecher for serious downloads. I also have Grabit but find I use that a lot less since I discovered Newsleecher.
