Windows Live SkyDrive - Update: Revamp! Already a member? Claim your 25GB!

I found out about this while watching NCIS: Los Angeles last night.

If you use XBL, MSN or other MS stuff you should get it striaght away.

Windows Live SkyDrive

It like Google docs, but you get to use office suite 2010 online (Word, Excel, One Note & PowerPoint) for FREE to create and edit them aswell & you get 25GB.

http://explore.live.com/windows-live-skydrive

I use it to keep doc I use for work as I cannot use a USB drive on their PC

You can even map the drive to your pc here

http://www.tipsblogger.com/2010/09/a...live-skydrive/

But I haven't had any luck (I guess I'm doing something wrong.) One one laptop it sticks at the username/password, on the other it cannot even find the drive.

I've used it for a while but I didn't know you could map a drive (I'm guessing its windows only anyway)

MS is revamping SkyDrive, presumably to compete with Dropbox and with Google's (rumoured) upcoming Cloud service.

Previously, there were two things: SkyDrive for cloud storage, Live Mesh for file syncing. Now there is just one unified service for both: SkyDrive.

MS is adding paid storage options, with tiers giving an additional 20GB, 50GB, and 100GB of storage.

New users get 7GB for free.

Existing users? They currently get 25GB , and can continue to do so for free if they hurry up and opt in.

There is a new desktop client, for synching (like Dropbox), to bring the Live Mesh side into the fold.

The mobile apps are also getting updates.

Thanks for that, i had already 25GB and i think it is a con for them to downgrade it to 7GB then expect you to click a button to upgrade it again to 25GB without telling you that it had been downgraded.

I also have 3 idrive 25GB accounts so i should really use them at some point.

Re: Windows Live SkyDrive - Update: Revamp! Already a member? Claim your 25GB!

It's rather slow at uploading. It's taken almost 18 hours to upload ~4gb [for me anyway], whereas Dropbox uploads/syncs the same amount of data in around 10 mins

Re: Windows Live SkyDrive - Update: Revamp! Already a member? Claim your 25GB!

Uploading 4GB in ten minutes means an upload speed of 6.66MB/s, or 53.3Mb/s...

Syncing, obviously, is a different matter....

Microsoft Skydrive: Claim 25GB Free

I started using this properly yesterday after having it for years since now they also offer an iPhone app. This appears to be much better value for money than the Google, Apple and Dropbox services.

I just upgraded my account to 25GB Free

Your account has been upgraded
You now have 25 GB of free storage. Thanks for using SkyDrive!

Download for Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad & Android: https://apps.live.com/skydrive

Upgrade your account as an existing customer: https://skydrive.live.com/#!/ManageStorage?lu=1

You will need to log in to your MSN account, and on that link under storage plans it should say "Free Upgrade" or something similar.

Other plans for new customers:

Free: 7GB (25GB Free if you're an existing user and login and use the service now)
US$10/year: 20GB
US$25/year: 50GB
US$50/year: 100GB
