Limewire pays $105m settlement to music firms
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13388839
Quote:
File-sharing software company Limewire has reached an out of court settlement with record labels that sued it for helping people pirate music.
The Lime Group, which developed the Limewire system, has agreed to pay $105m (£64.6m) to 13 music firms.
The figure is far less than the billion dollar bill for damages that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) claimed it was owed.

Well now we know where we stand..don't we?

Up the creek without an MP3.

Assuming that to be the case then that's all the more reason why people should pay for legal downloads don't you think?

It was looking very close last month but I understand that "issues" have been raised regarding their pairing with Spotify which remain unresolved.

If someone is inclined to obtain music without paying for it I'd suggest Youtube is not a good place for it. The quality is usually pretty poor if played through large speakers.

Re: Limewire pays $105m settlement to music firms
They got rid of Limewire, but not the Gnutella network so all the content is still there anyway so the other Gnutella clients out there still work as normal. They all end in 'wire' as well. I know Limewire was the main player but why just take down one client? Seems a bit strange...
