Cheap, but good DotNetNuke web hosting?
Does anyone know of a web hosting company offering an affordable package capable of hosting dotnetnuke, i currently have the basic £2.50 per month heart internet package, but unfortunately this has no support for databases, and is linux based anyway, so wont run DNN.
hear say thay their re-seller package is windows, but thats £30 a month. are there any cheaper web hosting deals that offer windows asp hosting capable of dotnetnuke for £10 per month, preferably less?
thanx

P.S i need at least 500mb web space (preferably more!), and could do with at least 5gb bandwidth
cheers

Why DotNetNuke, why not PHPNuke, same thing and the hosting will be cheaper as it'll run on Linux?

Re: Cheap, but good DotNetNuke web hosting?
iv already set the site up in dot net nuke, and its taken me a while!!
how does this look
http://www.hostinguk.net/webhosting.asp#tabs-1
one thing i always do when shopping for web hosts is ping their web address to make sure they have a good connection, the pings seem low on this one 16ms to 19ms and they offer a pretty decent package, im not sure about the 10mb limit on the database though, this might be an issue, the site isnt live yet and im already getting on for 4mb

What sort of content will the site be running. 10MB as a database is tiny.

Re: Cheap, but good DotNetNuke web hosting?
at the moment the site is pretty much empty, i will get a better idea of database size when the site is nearly complete, i.e photo galleries are empty, and there is a forum which is empty, and there are only 3 user accounts set up at the moment, there will be around 50 to 100 when to site is ready. im going to start filling some things in and see what size the database gets to. what size do you think ill be looking at?

do you think the next option up, the 50mb database will suffice?

Re: Cheap, but good DotNetNuke web hosting?
A forum has the potential to get quite large depending on how you configure it. If data for things like post attachments, avatars and such like is stored within the database, then it can mushroom with even a few users. On the other hand if you keep that stuff out of the forum the text files might be failry small. For example a vbulletin forum IO dealt with of aroud 75000 posts, which kept attachments separately stored took around 40MB of space. But then you also need to look at the size of attachments if you are allowing those to be stored in a file system.
When choosing your webhost you also need to look at how accesible your data is. Can you use remote access tools to stuff like the database, or can you only go through the site's control panel? Where is it being backed up, especially all the changeable and dynamic stuff like the SQL. I've learn't that mistake the hard way
Bottom line cheapest host may not be the best. The moment you need SQL you've moved away from basic packages.
A 500MB website is also fairly large. 5GB bandwidth may not go that far if you consider how few times that entire website could be viewed and downloaded. Storage space is relatively cheap these days, but the bandwidth implies site useage and that is where the data hosts incur their big costs.

Re: Cheap, but good DotNetNuke web hosting?
thanks rob,
i have more investigation to do into where the items are stored in the database, as its dot net nuke, I think that the users avatars will be stored in the actial web space, as the forum module uses the dotnetnuke profiles. I understand a 500mb website is particularly large, at the moment it is 65mb without any pictures or videos, which will need to be added at a later date. The reason im looking at the hosting side of it now is becuase the website isnt for me, and I need to know how much hosting will be so i can give the treasurer an idea, and see if funds are available to upgrade from heart, which is costing £2.50 per month.
I dont think backing up through the control panel is a problem, as long as i can take a backup it should all be okay.
5gb bandwidth should be plenty, seeing as this month, the website has 250mb bandwidth used, we want to promote the website more, and get more people using it, so im thinking towards 1gb maybe getting on towards 2 with it being asp instead of html

Re: Cheap, but good DotNetNuke web hosting?
1&1 do a windows hosting package, only thing i can see with the basic package is that it doesnt have SQL import, will this be a problem?
I believe i can import the database through the web control panel, so will this be okay?
