checking the quality of a phone line

A client has a country pub with 2 phone lines into the property. Is there any way of checking the lines in advance to decide which is best for ADSL use. He's miles from the exchange so every little bit will help.

Re: checking the quality of a phone line

BT can do whoosh tests, but I've looked up on :Google: and apparently it seems only ISPs can request them. You could only try and call BT to ask?

"whoosh test" - Thanks for the terminology, gives me a starting point to google and research. I'd never come across that before.

Re: checking the quality of a phone line

Years ago I used a phone number that you call to test you phone line. you rang a number then hang up, then your phone would ring and this would tell you your line was ok.

Yeah, that was the one I was trying to get from google, but I couldn't find it.

It was a number similar to 150.
