MSN home page - how to avoid being directed to it?
I access my Hotmail accounts via the Windows Live toolbar and every time I log out I get automatically directed to the MSN home page which I find about as appealing as the Sun's front page. Is there any way I can avoid this happening or is it just part of the 'price' for using Hotmail?

Re: MSN home page - how to avoid being directed to it?
Thanks for the reply. Not sure what you mean, sorry. I have BBC News set as my homepage but get redirected to the MSN home page page whenever I log out of a Hotmail account.
This is the offending page:
http://uk.msn.com/?ocid=hmlogout
It annoys me because I'm not interested in it and loading it up seems to be quite slow.

I don't think you will be able to change this behaviour as I suspect that M$ want you to visit MSN.
All you need to do though is just hit the stop button in whichever browser your using and then go to the website of your choice.

Re: MSN home page - how to avoid being directed to it?
I just asked my son who uses hotmail (i don't)and the answer is no, hotmail will automatically redirect to MSN if you log out , ,you could not save the password on hotmail in which case you will automatically be logged out after a period of time or you could just press the home button on your browser toolbar .Clicking the 'log out' button in hotmail is what redirects you to MSN so if you avoid clicking that you will not be redirected to MSN

If you're using Firefox apparently there's a greasemonkey script which will do this.
Site is cached here as seems to be down at the moment...

Cheers guys. Forgot to say I'm using IE8. Well I guess it's a fairly small price to pay for a free email service.

yeah , just press the home button on the tool bar and you will go straight to bbc page as long as that is set as your home page in internet options

Re: MSN home page - how to avoid being directed to it?
there is no need to log out of hotmail unless you want to log on to a different hotmail account
if you log into hotmail and select the 'remember me' and 'remember my password' options then go to your inbox and save that page as a favourite (bookmark if using firefox) it will automatically sign you in each time you go to your hotmail (using the favourite link you saved)... when you're done just goto any page you want without logging out of hotmail .... hotmail will automatically sign you out after about 15 minutes ...this will only work for 1 hotmail account .... if you save 2 or more hotmail accs it will just log into the one that was last accessed and you will have to sign out to change accounts ... which will take you back to the msn page you are trying to avoid
NOTE: don't use the above method if you are on a public or shared computer as other users will have access to your hotmail account without having to know the password etc

Re: MSN home page - how to avoid being directed to it?
Useful thanks but I almost always check several Hotmail accounts in succession so it wouldn't work for me. This morning, I only checked my main account and forgot to sign out when I'd finished. As you say, I was automatically logged out after a short period so didn't have to contend with the MSN nonsense on that occasion. In future I won't bother signing when I don't have to.
