Government rethinks net blocking

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12334075

The government has announced that it is to look again at plans to block websites that infringe copyright.

Quote:
In a recent court case brought against 27 alleged illegal file-sharers, it was argued that the IP address of a computer, the numerical code that identifies the connection, cannot be used as evidence because it fails to identify the individual responsible.

Re: Government rethinks net blocking

dangerous game here, an example.

someone hosts forum.
user posts rapidshare links for movie downloads.
before moderators can fix some guy from anti piracy group sees post and reports the website to authorities.
next thing forum owner finds out he is blacklisted on uk isp's and no uk users can access his site.

if you think that kind of false positive wont happen, I am not so sure as I have had take down notices for such events which I had to fight off. anti piracy groups are very agressive and hard to be flexible with. They see anything online infringing copyright they tend to issue demands with very short notices.
