Worth £100bn If the internet was an economic sector it would be the UK's fifth largest. It accounts for 7.2% of the UK's gross domestic product (GDP). 60% of this spend is made up of connectivity and consumption, the balance from infrastructure investment, government IT and export.
Mmmmmm - I think there may be a conflation of figures here, with quite a bit of double-counting.
I wonder what the figures would be for road/rail transport, if the same rules were used? (as the internet is mainly a medium for the consumption, rather than it being the goods itself).
