Surely then that is something to take up with your news host?

Re: Newsgroup retention problem

Which news host? Most now do upto 700+ days..

The main issue though is that the older (60+ days) stuff gets archived onto slower servers so can time out/fail/slowdown..

Thread moved to internet discussion as it's nothing to do with VM as the new management policy would effect all traffic and not just 87+ days

I think both of those news hosts are HighWinds resellers.

Try AstraWeb

Re: Newsgroup retention problem

You may find that some items are removed from the more prominent newsgroup provider's servers due to take down type requests from the copyright holders. If generally you cannot download older stuff then there is a fault. If it's specific types of content then there is more likely to have been a removal, even if the content remains listed.

Not VM's problem or fault. Talk to your news provider as VM are not allowed to interfere or restrict a third party's retention and would not dare try to.
