Hi Dragon,
Thanks
I bought the domain from i-Web, but the registrar would appear to be TUCOWS.
I have a login for i-Web, but can see no option to change DNS entries. As far as I'm aware I don't have a login for TUCOWS.

Re: Moving webhost
I can recommend www.hostforweb.com
I've been with them for a month or two now, support is excellent. Tickets, regardless of priority are are answered (and normally resolved) within mins. The longest was 10 mins on a low priority ticket during peak time. The best the other day was a low priority ticket within 2 mins during peak time. A level 3 support ticket (PHP UDP sockets weren't recieving data properly despite connecting - turned out to be firewalled. They added a new rule for me ) was resolved in just over an hour.

Re: Moving webhost
Probably recommend moving your domains also from IWeb - I use www.123-reg.co.uk

I don't need anything fancy in the way of hosting, I just need to be able to move my email accounts etc across. There's nothing in the way of content that I can't replicate.
How easy is it all to do though? Is it as easy as telling my new host what my domain name is and then pointing the DNS at their servers? How do I go about changing the DNS entries, I really haven't got a clue on that one.....

Just looked at 1&1 and it appears that they don't do a database with their 'home' package. I need a database ideally as I have a photogallery that I share with friends an family which relies on a database.
Can't remember what database I have with i-Web (it's a linux hosting package so I'm guessing MySQL), but I could do with retaining that functionality.
|
Same here. I need at least two MYSQL databases, one for WordPress & one for Coppermine Photo Gallery.
1&1 only do them with their business packages, & 123reg (who I have a few domain names with) don't do them at all.

I've got the same problem.
I bought my main domain name via i-Web, although a whois shows it as being registered through FASTHOSTS.
Can't see any option on the i-Web site for changing DNS or transferring a domain name, & I have no login for FASTHOSTS.

My main one was registered via i-Web though, when I took out the hosting. Don't know how to move it.

Ah I think you're going to have to ask them to release the domain to you and migrate it to a registrar of your Choice.
Personally i'd say its generally better to try and keep your host and your registrar separate.
I made the same mistake for my original domain but I didn't care about losing it so I just Registered another domain elsewhere... Now I always use someone else to registrar and While I do have some domains registered on behalf of some of the friends I host I always recommend people choose their own registrar as it makes it easier for them to move host if they're not happy with the service.
If Iweb refuse to release the domain to you then file a dispute with the relivent authority, its ICANN for .com .net. org and NOMINET for .co.uk .org.uk i think.

Re: Moving webhost
Try going to Tucows/Fasthosts direct and complete a lost password thingy. Hopefully I-web regged your domains with your e-mail and not there's.

Re: Moving webhost
Just the bog-standard reseller's account at the moment. I might need to go to a dedicated server, but atm HFB are coping with my vBulletin forums admirably well whereas the my last host didn't (hostnine *spit*)

Its worth a shot but I bet they didn't...
Most Hosts should offer Mysql really only reason not to would be becuase it Uses more resources (cpu time/memory) to process the query.
However the benefits usually outweigh the extra resource usage.

Re: Moving webhost
You should be able to goto any registrar - I.e. 123-reg and select something along the lines of transfer domain to xxxx - Most will charge you a price to do so on top of the registration fee (123 don't) and if the transfer fails then you should get your money back.
I've been chasing a .COM domain for a while and keep trying this and getting my money back.

Hmmm....
That might be a problem too.
I think that the email they registered it with is one of the ones for the domain, with the server down at the moment none of my emails are getting through

Re: Moving webhost
Gav,
How do you manage the renewal of your domain, looks like they don't auto-renew .co.uk ones, or are you on a .com?

Re: Moving webhost
I don't have an i-web domain if that's what you mean... All my domains are direct with godaddy.com. I just renew through there.

I'll give it a shot, but I did see a post on the i-Web forum of someone moaning that they had trouble moving 'cos theirs was registered by admin@i-web.

Yeah, I've had a look at that. Free transfer, plus I have an account with 123reg already.
It does say though that you need to first contact the current registrar & do something before then putting the transfer through at their end.
