Question Transfering a Domain ?

Anyone here who can help me? I've transfered 2x Domains in the past & all went well. Easy & FAST too.

1st was just moving Domain to 123reg (same owner) Cost FREE.
2nd was buying a Domain off a friend & transfering ownership in 123REG.

Now I have a different Transfer needed & am in need of advice.

"Mr A" owns domain.co.uk (example) with Registrar http://www.key-systems.net & I have his permission to it take over to my Name & I wish to use 123REG.

How do I transfer the .co.uk over? I know the IPS tags have to be changed to 123REG but what about Ownership???? Any easy way to do this?

Cheers

Re: Transfering a Domain ?

Just an after thought as I started this topic, how would you legally change ownership of a non .co.uk domain (ie .com or .tv??) Cheers

Whoever currently hosts the Domain name record should be able to do that for you, unless of course the new owner wishes another company to have thier custom.

Most dont charge if it's kept in the same company, though some will expect the new owner to take out a years more service for the change to be free. If going to another company it'll normally just cost the fee for normal registrations (you should still also get the time owing on the domain lease.

If changing it to a new company then the doamin name will have to be unlocked by the original owner before a transfer can take place otherwise the original name holding company will reject the transfer request.

.TV .DJ and others
It tends to just be one company who handle the whole top domain so go to thier website and see from there.

Re: Transfering a Domain ?

As long as the owner knows thier username and password details for the company currently holding the domain then YES. I one time lost my username/password details and also didn't currently have access to the registered email address and had to fax through a copy of my passport before they'd acknowledge who I was. But that is a worse case scenario
