Usenet trials

Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to this whole Usenet thing, not sure I completely understand it but I would like to give it a try.

So the question is who do you recommend for a trial. From what I have read from other posts people seem to recommend GigaNews, EasyNews and someone mentioned Hitnews.Eu. Also I am looking for one that can max out a 20mbit connection \

Giganews do a free trial, and I always max my connection with them.

Re: Usenet trials

I second that giganews is really good, max out my connection 2.3mb down, be prepared to pay after the trail as you will love it.

Re: Usenet trials

I'm with Giganews and a happy camper. However, for occasional usage I've seen these guys recommended. Rather than pay a subscription you can buy blocks of data.

Re: Usenet trials

Wow, everyone seems to really like giganews.

I shall have to definitely give it a go. The subscription isn't too bad either, especially as it is in $.

The next question is, which package are you all on? How much do you use it?

I'm on the 'Platinum' unlimited tariff, but thinking of going down to silver (25GB per month).

What I found was I downloaded loads when I first got it, TV programs, films & music, mainly.

However, just lately I have mainly been getting only TV programs, which at 400MB per 40 minute episode, (more for higher resolutions, 400MB is a 'standard' Xvid rip of an HD prog, X264 comes in at around 1.2GB, but can be more) doesn't really use an unlimited account to the max.

One thing to bear in mind is how you will store the files you download - you can easily fill an hard drive in a month, so you will need to store stuff in a format accessible by your other equipment (I'm lucky my external DVD player will cope with DivX/Xvid, for example).

Re: Usenet trials

Astraweb.

http://www.news.astraweb.com/

Unlimited GB £4.78/Month
25 GB £4.78 (unlimited time-until 25GB runs out)
90 GB £11.95 (unlimited time-until 90GB runs out)
I use the last option. Usually lasts me about 4 -6 months (same as Homealone, I just get the odd TV program).
Maxes out my connection every time.

Re: Usenet trials

with stuff like the odd tv program i find using a private tracker or paid for access a little silly unless u are in a big rush but waiting 30-40 mins to grab a new show off a public site for free isnt to hard. Especially as i would add them in the morning then go to work so no biggie.

Re: Usenet trials

Not silly to me. Horses for courses.
I like the fact that it's instant - and at £12 for 90GB it's damn near free for a 400mb XviD anyway.
