problem with secure sites

For the last three weeks I have been having problem viewing secure sites. They take ages to download, and often fail to download. I am with talk talk, and their advisors have been unable to diagnose the problem so far. They got us to change the MTU, but this has made no difference.

Basically, I have two laptops at my property, both using wireless broadband. Both experienced this problem at exactly the same time. If anyone has any ideas how I can solve this I would be very grateful.

Re: problem with secure sites

As Talk Talk advised, I have now tested my laptop and router at a friends house, who also has Talk Talk broadband.

I didn't have any problems using any secure sites, and everything downloaded quickly. Therefore, has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? Maybe something wrong with the BT phoneline? Something wrong with the Talk Talk settings their side perhaps?

I'm currently in the queue waiting to speak to an advisor now (which could take all day!), but if someone is able to suggest what might be causing the problem I can pass it on the advisors (who don't seem to have much of a clue!).

Thanks a lot.

Re: problem with secure sites

Are your normal http/ftp based downloads and browsing generally ok? If so, then I doubt that there will be a problem with your phone line as you would be experiencing general connectivity problems, not just with ssl.

Do you know if your ISP uses web proxies for http/ssl traffic because this is where I would be inclined to point the finger seeing as you're not having any such problems at your friend's house.
