Re: Newsdemon?
Used to use them, was ok to start with then speeds just dropped to about a quarter for no reason (and no this was nothing to do with VM traffic shaping) so I dumped them. Went through a couple of others before ending up with Giganews, would have no other provider now.

Re: Newsdemon?
see how you get on and see how much you download if speeds do become a problem and you do decide you can afford Giganews I would swap if you need. Giganews does take UK debit cards now btw

Re: Newsdemon?
TBH I read some reviews and it came highly reccomended, but since using it over the last 24hours im not happy with speeds and connection issues.
Whenever I start a DDL I get usr name or pws errors yet if I highlight all files and select retry DL it starts. Speeds gone from 3.4Mbps down to 90 KBps when no STM has been enforced and 1.6Mbps to 16Kbps when STM is enforced.
I was swaying between newsdemon and giga, and being a tight git I went for newsdemon. I think I will cancel newsdemon in favour of giga before my subs are due.
I should have asked around before signing up with demon.

Or powerusenet if you don't mind less retention
Only time I don't max my line is during the evenings
But that's due to my ISP setting a hard cap of 2mbit/s on the line during evenings, before they did that I used to be able to max it most of the time.
They resell giganews services anyway.

Re: Newsdemon?
found newsdemon were terrible when i tried them. speeds were crap, servers were crap, retention was crap and support was.......well you get the idea.
since i've changed to giganews had no probs, max speed most of the time.
wouldn't touch ND again with the proverbial bargepole.

Re: Newsdemon?
Just been on to on of their "live" script jockeys, have asked for my account to be suspended\deleted and a full refund due to their very poor speed issues, I have been informed it will be raised with their accounts dept.
i know its not VM due to my newshosting account still being live and getting my full speed from them.

Re: Newsdemon?
The extra £ for Giganews is worth it for the 200 days retention imo.

Re: Newsdemon?
As far as I recall, Newsdemon are Newshosting resellers or some such offshoot.
I did try ND over a year ago, and they were pretty awful. As others have recommended, go with Giganews. You won't be disappointed.

Re: Newsdemon?
I think Newsdemon is going to go for me, paid for the month and i'll use it for that but I will be signing up with giga in 28days. Their CS is absolutly rubbish.

Re: Newsdemon?
If you have just joined newsdemon, could you have a quick look on the article count of alt.bin.games.xbox360 on their european server.
They say there is not a problem, but i call an article count of 600k when it was 19 odd million a problem.
The useast server is around the 15-19million mark.
Only been with them for a month and their service so far is crap. Back to giganews i think .
---------- Post added at 17:18 ---------- Previous post was at 16:58 ----------
Now its at 3.6 million again. Give it a few hours, and it will start saying its at 22 mill, even though you can only get the same 3.6 million.
