Great idea. I have had a quick look at the sites you have given and psicosonis.net has already sparked an idea for a canvas.

I will definitely spend some more time browsing your recommendations.
To see what other artists are producing I like to keep an eye on the Saatchi Gallery .. Showdown.

I also enjoy the paintings of Walter Gabrielson and his canvases have triggered ideas for my own work.

At the moment I am working with gold leaf on canvas and have had to develop my own techniques as this work has traditionally been done on wood, vellum or plaster. One of the main dealers/manufactures in gold leaf is only a few miles away from where I live and they have been very helpful when I needed technical advise. I can also recommend them as an on line supplier.

Note books and early 20th century reference books left to me by a Great Uncle, who was a sign writer par excellence, have been have been a great help. Some of the recipes are quite scary though.....Take 12ozs of white lead, 1oz whiting and mix with rabbit skin glue to form a paste smooth to the touch.
The type of reference material I find useful is scattered all over the net but here’s one example.
