Question RIAA - decoys on P2P?

http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news...le.php/3705171

Hi people, what do you think about this, a small and early attempt at trying to stop file sharers?

Re: RIAA - decoys on P2P?

This is nothing new its been going on for a while but was not so well known. Also the fine was only so high because she tried to fight it in court and lost. Would of been much less had she settled as most have done.

The P2P programs like kazza etc etc are fully of virus's and fakes anyway. I for one dont go near them.

Currently this idea that has been put into motion a little more seriously, has been running for what two years or something?

As well, kazaa is finished anyway.

Re: RIAA - decoys on P2P?

The Thomas case popped up here recently.

<searches>

Decoys, fake files, MediaDefender...not new, really.

Although what I found funny recently was discovering a The Pirate Bay etc tracker site named "Miivi"* with the tagline "A tribute to the fall of MediaDefender!".

Not sure what level of protection it is, but running things like Peerguardian may reduce your exposure. In theory it blocks IP's of known public sites that might hide these decoys.

I'd also stick to private tracker sites for p2p stuff too.
