I switched from 1&1 (costing me a fortune for web space that, although good, didn't suit my needs any more) to I-Web. Their domains are priced a bit more than most places, but you can get a cheap domain at 123-Reg and point it to your web space. You can get some web space from I-Web from about £1.99 a month.

Exactly what I do, I've been with I-Web for a while, now & since they moved to UK servers I haven't really had any problems & I've found their customer service to be very good. 123-reg are the place to go for co.uk domains.

Re: Where can I buy a Domain name and webspace - cheaply

Have you considered using Dreamhost?

Disk Storage: 160GB
Monthly Bandwidth: 1.6TB
MySQL Databases: unlimited
Free Domain Registrations (.com/.net/.org/.info only)

Price: $119.40 p/year
Discount code: -$90 (use "SAVE90YEAR" when signing-up)
Total price: $29.40 = £15 per year, but this only works for the 1st year, as you can't use the discount code for subsequent years.

Same here, domain from 123-reg & hosting from I-Web, I've had very good services.

But whoever you choose, one tip I can give you is do not buy your domain & hosting from the same place.
Get your domain and then change the name servers to point to your hosting.

Indeed, UK2 for names and iweb for hosting is how I currently run. Don't like / understand what they are currently doing with mail forwarding though.

Re: Where can I buy a Domain name and webspace - cheaply

just my pennies worth, but i use 1and1 for .co.uk domains (there the cheapest going at £1.99 a year) and i-web for hosting - works well, haven't had any major problems with either

Just looked and they (ghoti) are £7.98 for a 2 year .co.uk. That doe not even state if vat has to go on top. with 123 a 2 year .co.uk is only £6.09 including vat. I think I've had 20 or more from them (123) over the last couple of years.

It is interesting how much 'extra' is available when you sign up for a domain name, lately, Ghoti score high in the customer service category, btw
