Comcast Boosts Cable Upload Speeds
Comcast officially announced Tuesday what customers around the United States have been noticing for months: no bandwidth caps when uploading files less than 10MB. The feature, called PowerBoost, follows a similar upgrade in download speeds last year.
Customers will be able to upload at speeds reaching 2 megabits per second, far greater than the standard limit of 384 kilobytes. The service is being rolled out on a market-to-market basis, with the entire Comcast network expected to be upgraded by the end of the year. Comcast customers already see download speeds of 12Mbps to 16Mbps for files under 10MB.

If Comcast can offer 2Mb upload speeds on their 12Mb-16Mb packages, i think VM can do it on their 20Mb package.

True, but this is also showing the internal capability of the Comcast or CableVision, or Time Warner Cable for that matter networks, not just external bandwidth. My apartment is still connected to the internet with the same type of coax as you get to the VM network, it is connected to a Moto VOIP CM, something that could connect to VM if they so chose. The cable infrastructure here is just better, that and now Verizon is offering FTTH in some areas, which also helps enhance competition.

Maybe, but I don't really notice it. Catching up on those (ahem) Linux Overview Strategic Transfer files, they come whipping off the net from newsgroups.
But then again when I am downloading a 350Mb file, I don't particularly pay attention whether it takes 5 or 15 minutes.

I also have a SA8300 SD DVR.
No phone service from them as I use a UK Vonage box. Friends can dial a UK number to call me and talk to me in NYC!
The speedtest on this site which may not be the most reliable due to the distance...
Wed, 9 May 2007 23:21:07 UTC
1st 512K took 814 ms = 629 KB/sec, approx 5183 Kbps, 5.06 Mbps
2nd 512K took 797 ms = 642.4 KB/sec, approx 5293 Kbps, 5.17 Mbps
3rd 512K took 782 ms = 654.7 KB/sec, approx 5395 Kbps, 5.27 Mbps
4th 512K took 782 ms = 654.7 KB/sec, approx 5395 Kbps, 5.27 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 5317 Kbps, 5.19 Mbps
http://www.speedtest.net/ says
7345 down / 1727 up. This is through my version 1.1 WRT54G so that may be limiting the download.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
says 12687 down / 1757 up.
http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=9&premium=
9695 / 1764
This is at 7.30pm so the network might be a little more congested right now.

Reason: added speedtest results.

What im saying is that even if internally we could get 100Mbps, it would cost VM so much for the external capacity, they would be driven out of business... Mainly because the T1 providers charge so much
