IE8
Not long to go.........

Internet Explorer 8 will be the primary user interface for Microsoft's Silverlight application, poised to take on Adobe's Flash. The current version of Internet Explorer has been criticised for the way that the user interface can't be customised, so this is one of the areas the developers will try to improve in IE8.

Some IE 8.0 features stem from problems that Microsoft encountered in IE 7.0. These were considered too big to tackle and attributable to Microsoft's use of its own technologies rather than industry standards.
|
So I guess Microsoft were trying to set their own standards rather than the industry standards. What does that smell of?

I quite like IE7 now that I've tried it in XP and not in Vista Beta 2.

Re: IE8
However Internet Explorer being the load of hits (anag) that it is. It will never be a patch on Firefox, when it comes to versatility, user customability, security and (being open source) supportability.
No contest!

I use FireFox 2 as well as IE7. And I like them both. Yes FF is more customisable. But I never install any extras to it (bar the spell checker). And I do ASP.NET 2.0 web development so I need both to see how the sites look in both browsers.

Re: IE8
There's only one thing I don't like about Silverlight. It's not truly multi platforn (as Microsoft say it is).
It supports IE, Firefox and Safari on Mac OSX and Windows. What about Opera, Linux and the various mobile phone OSs? Flash (IIRC) supports most of them to some extent.

Re: IE8
I have to say, im tempted to switch to Opera, ive seen a lot of speed and secuirty tests where its really flying.
Silverlight i dont think will make much progresss, on the basis that companies have spent a fortune teaching people to use flash... there not gonna re-train them.

Re: IE8
Yeah IE7 is problematic. I myself have had issues with IE7 and Vista as well as XP ,Firefox crashes on Vista all the time so when I get these glitches I use Opera.

Re: IE8
wow if this is true its good news, I think Microsoft made a right clanger with IE7, it is horried rendering performance, doesnt have multi row tabs, uncustomisable interface and have to do a reg hack to get the old style menu bar. Its error pages are too newbie style and the "friendly error pages" option does nothing, when visiting pages with a unsigned ssl cert I also think it makes a too big issue of it.
