Exclamation Website Security

Hi,

My Girlfriend wants to make a website but she doesnt want to use dreamweaver etc as she doesnt know html etc, she doesnt want anything fancy so she has been looking at Geocities as its easy to make with templates etc.

The only trouble is she wants to add personel information to it but she doesnt want it appearing on Google or for anyone else to be able to find her website via Yahoo which deals with Geocities.

With my Website which i created via HTML and published on NTL's server it is not found on google, only a few people know my URL.

Is there anyway she can make her website private if she uses geocities? or is there any sites similar that can have total privacy from spiders? or users from the website its created on?

Now before someone mentions a blog she has one but there is other stuff she wants to do that she cant do on her blog, and of course she doesnt want 2 blogs and the one she has she doesnt want to ban everyone from seeing it on msn space.

Can anyone help?

Re: Website Security

If the server supports it you can password protect subfolders using .htaccess files. That'll stop bots or any one else accessing the folder's contents unless they know the password.

The problem is usually how to store the password securely, which requires that to be outside of the public area of the website, not in the subfolder, and that will depend on the server setup whether you get that level of access.

However if the information is that personal it shouldn't be on a website.
