AllofMP3.com blacklisted
If you've tried to buy anything from AllofMP3.com and had your card refused recently, this might be why.
It seems that both Mastercard and Visa have blacklisted the company, and will no longer be processing payments for them.
Apparently, their justification for their action is that Allofmp3.com is illegal.

Re: AllofMP3.com blacklisted
The problem for the music industry is that allofmp3 does appear to be operating legally within Russia. That means the industry can't touch allofmp3 directly. However I'm sure both Mastercard and Visa have realised it is only a matter of time before some sharp-suited shyster working for one of the record labels decides to try to drag them through the courts in the US for aiding and abetting activity that's illegal in the US. I expect this is a pre-emptive move on the part of the card companies.

Pretty much along those lines, but whilst there is doubt over the legality within Russia, there is no doubt of the ilegality of importing AllofMP3's content to the United Kingdom and most other countries. Therefore it's probably sensible for the card companies to block such transactions - especially as the contract to purchase is formed between the merchant and the credit card company - so in effect the credit card companies are buying illegally downloaded music!
And as Mastercard sponsor the Brit Awards.....

I like to think that British consumers are purchasing a product in Russia (on a server based in a Russia, so in so many terms, they are) and then having it exported to the UK. Bit like me bringing back music bought in Russia from them back from my holidays on my iPod.

Re: AllofMP3.com blacklisted
I've never used it. But I did think about it since it had MP3's available and not WMA's.
I won't buy music from anywhere that uses DRM files like WMA's. I like my DRM-free MP3 files. I have paid a couple of pence to stream the music however... You know, JUST to listen to once...
I also won't buy another CD since I was ripped off with the last one I bought - it wouldn't play in my PC without installing the player on the disc, and then it played back at 24Kbits, so sounded only marginally better than if it was played over the phone.

Unfortunately for that theory, there is already a precedent in law that says what you do on your computer, even if it's from the internet, is reckoned to be on your computer - the precedent is in child porn cases, where the charge that is brought is 'making indecent images', as the image has to be created by the offending browser from the stream of data it receives.

Re: AllofMP3.com blacklisted
The fact is that the site isn't breaking any laws until Russia change them. It's a perfectly legal business in their country. As for $1.6 trillion - that's just stupid.
