E-mail problem
Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is something that's been dealt with before, and / or sorry if it's not an NTL issue - it's just something I've come across in the last day or so and I'm trying to find a solution by any means I can!
I have an e-mail account, mdellow@msn.com, which I can normally access quite painlessly via either Outlook Express or Hotmail, but the computer's been down for a couple of weeks, and now I can't do either - which is really frustrating, because I know I have e-mails waiting! The tech support e-mail address so far hasn't responded, and I wonder if anyone might have any ideas? I'm using Outlook Express 6.0 and Internet Explorer version 6 on Windows XP, if that tells anyone anything.
Any suggestions gratefully received, folks!
Cheers,
Mark.

The following message comes up :
How to get to Hotmail
Hotmail does not support the .NET Passport you are signed in to.Visit the Hotmail Web site for information or to set up a free account.

Re: E-mail problem
Here goes :
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'MSN', Server: 'http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Service Unavailable', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCCF0
Hope that makes more sense to you than it does to me!

Re: E-mail problem
have you tried removing and readding the account in Outlook Express? if not, try this
Also, make sure that in the properties of the account you have selected "logon using secure password authentication (SPA)"

Re: E-mail problem
Yep, tried that ( although surely, that still wouldn't explain why I'm having difficulty getting into the account via Hotmail, would it? ) - a couple of times in fact, didn't make any difference. As for "logon using secure password authentication (SPA)" - I've checked the account properties and I can't see where there's an option for this.

Re: E-mail problem
In the past, if I've had a problem accessing the account using Outlook Express, I've always got around it until the problem was solved by accessing it via Hotmail. I don't know why it worked, but it always did. In the long run, I need to be able to access it via Outlook Express as I always have, but in the short term, I'll settle for accessing it any which way I can! In fact for that matter, if anyone knows of any other alternatives apart from Outlook Express or Hotmail that might enable me to access it in the short term, I'd welcome any suggestions along those lines also!

Re: E-mail problem
have you tried logging in to My MSN or Callendar, or something not rtelated to the mail, but is part of MSN, sometimes this works, then click on to the mail part.
It may be the server your logging into is not responding, so you may have to find an alternative route in.

Re: E-mail problem
Still no joy, I'm afraid. The result is the same - although it will let you into My MSN, once you try to log into Hotmail you get the same error message as described below. As for finding an alternative route, in the short term I'd be happy to try that if it will just let me look at my e-mails (!) but how would I do that? Other than via Outlook Express or Hotmail, I don't know of any other way to view an msn mail account. Anyone else?

Re: E-mail problem
Have you tried removing the .net passport association from your user account on the pc, reboot and then create a new passport association for the user account? I think you can do it through the control panel, user accounts area. (Running 2000 at work so can't check).

I hadn't tried it before, but I have now, and guess what ...
Thanks for the suggestion though - you never know, it might have worked! Any more for any more?

Re: E-mail problem
Have you tried creating a totally new passport with a different email address/user name etc?? I know it won't help you collect your email but it might shed some light onto whether it's your account that's knackered at MSN
