MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) Launches 1st Wave of Lawsuits

Studios File 1st Wave of Suits Against Online Illegal File Traders

P2P networks, flourishing under the flags of BitTorrent & eDonkey2000, have become havens for those wishing to trade large files - especially movies.

Although piracy, in one form or another, is costing the movie industry about $3 billion annually, there has been no specific price tag placed on P2P. Because of the amount of time required to download a film, movie P2P piracy has not become as rampant as music P2P piracy. However, looking to avoid the music industry's current entanglement, the MPAA is taking a preemptive measure.

Re: MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) Launches 1st Wave of Lawsuits

Is the post above the single most colourful post ever?

Back on topic...

I am in two minds about this. I will admit, I have actually downloaded movies, although with the current state of p2p this really takes too long to be worth it

On the other hand, I can see that $3 billion a year is a lot for Hollywood to use. It's 30 times the production budget for Terminator 2. So, I can see that the movie industy needs to do something to reduce that a bit..

I have to admit, the main justification I use for downloading music is that I tend to download alternative remix. Obviously, this is not an option for Movies, apart from the rumoured edition of The Phantom Menace with Jar Jar Binks edited out.

Again im sure it will cost them far more to stop.........than it will actually save them.

Again they need to look at why people download movies and what salaries various high up people are earning and then think long.....................and hard about themselves.

I really hope these stupid idiots shoot themselves in the foot and all their lawsuits backfire on them.

MPAA President and CEO Dan Glickman (how much does he earn? what car does he drive, what does he actually do?)

While they are still making billions of pounds of profit, do they really need to complain. Reduce the profit margin and high earning jobsworths and I will be willing to feel sorry for them. Until then stop bleating!

The MPAA have been trying to tell people that movie piracy is funding terrorism (ooh, what a nice bogeyman!)

They seem less inclined to tell people about the amount of Mafia/ Organised Crime involvement in Hollywood since it was established...!
