SOLVED .... grounding kids ... msn ?????

I wasn't sure where to put this so if it needs to be moved

I wan't to ' ground ' one of the kids from msn but thinking about it thought it unfair to ground just the one, I did it anyway, what happens, she logs in on another account, I have 6 set up on this pc.
I know she should not have the passwords for the other accounts but kids are kids, so, my question at last, is there a way of installing msn onto only 2 accounts out of the 6, or a way to block access once installed on the accounts in question.
I've tried to install to a default folder on my desktop but it did not give me the option, I also can't see anything in the help files.

TIA

Using xp home, msn 6.2

Re: grounding kids ... msn ?????

Depending on how configurable your firewall is, you can block port 443 on the appropriate account, then msn won't be able to authenticate and can't sign in

EDIT: After looking at my reply... N.I.S 2005, I decided to look at that, what do you know, piece of cake, you can set different acces levels for different progs and accounts. Now all ii need is some good ear tectors and a big bag og rags for when it hits the fan

Thanks anyway

Re: grounding kids ... msn ?????

Oh dear... off the top of my head.... (assuming NIS is still the same as it was in 2002)

1. Open NIS
2. Click on personal firewall
3. then configure
4. then program controls (or program access...)
5. then find msn messenger and chose manual/custom configuration
6. there should be an option to block or allow certain ports...
7. chose to block incoming and outgoing traffic on port 443

save all of this and then test it.... try logging onto a different profile just to check it is individually configurable for each account.

Hope that helps..... (and isn't too vague!)

Cheers mate, you got your post in just as I edited mine, it seems to be a lot easier with 2005, Thanks again
