Will the UK ever have high speed broadband?

I know after research that a British person invented the internet, but still, we probably have the slowest and most expensive internet. Why is this? We did afterall invent the internet!! Will there ever be something like 10mbit availble for 25 pounds a month with unlimited bandwhith either on ADSL or Cable?? And why has Britain fallen so far behind?

Well NTL's next move seems to be getting close to that, but not close enough. I do agree, Britain is BADLY behind with internet prices and the speed of them.

No we wont, because it costs billions of pounds to provide the infrastructure needed to do this and our government would rather spend this on waging war, and propping up third world countries so they can fight each other.

Yes but compare 3MB to 10MB in the US, it costs about $25 for 10MB in the USA

Peoples perceptions of what is acceptable seem to change...

I remember loading all my games off a tape

Then thinking how fast a floppy drive was when I finally got one for my bbc micro...

Then how fast a HDD drive was....

So however fast things get it will never really be 'fast enough' for some people i think

Tim Berners-Lee didn't invent the internet. He invented the worldwide web (in 1992), which is just one of the many things you can do with the internet. The internet pre-dates the WWW by 33 years and was invented by a bunch of American universities funded by a US Government agency called ARPA.
