connection dies ?

didnt know where to put this one really but here goes.....

i just got my computer back from the repair about 3 days ago, for the past 2 days on the new machine when i am using azureus torrent client the connection seems to die for the client, i can surf and browse, but uploading and downloading grinds to a hault, a restart of the program is the only cure, i have limited upload to 13kb/s out of 30, i seed 5-7 files which causes no problems on my other machine, internet settings are identical to the other machine.

anyone have an explaination for this behaviour ?

You posted while most people would be at work, I'd wait a bit and see if anyone offers more suggestions....

I can't help however as my azureus doesn't die on me at all.

Still I'll bump the thread again for you

p.s. did you upgrade it?
p.p.s. Have you got xp sp2?

Re: connection dies ?

Do they both have the same hardware config? For example do they both have the same NIC? Are they firewalled at all or have agressive anti-virus running? What was the PC in the shop for, what was the resolution to that problem and did anything on the PC get changed in the shop?

Re: connection dies ?

well the pc was sent off to germany, the cpu was replaced, thats all, they both run the same antivirus/firewall NIS 2003, both have the same settings for the internet, it doesent happen on the other machine it does on this, if i leave it idle overnight.

as for the NIC,its a VIA rhine fast ethernet adapter, i think the other one is a realtek one.

edit: just disabled QoS packet scheduler on my network connection.

Re: connection dies ?

if i dont throttle my upload back to 10K on emule i get the same issue. It seems that when it gets to something between 10-14 it hangs my connection totally not just emule. But im on NTL's 750K service so i only get a 128k upload

Re: connection dies ?

i dont know what to do now, the only problem im having now is complete slowdown on sites, its not the fact there are few seeds and peers, there are plenty and the speeds combined are well in to mb/s, reformatted the pc, disabled firewall, installed latest java, latest client, might try an ethernet cable change.

Re: connection dies ?

Before, I had loads of trouble with P2P. The sheer weight of connections used to crash my STB. Since I got the new one, I have noticed it doesn't crash, but browsing just stops dead BT/FTP all fine through)

Has throttling the upload speed made no difference?

Re: connection dies ?

i always throttle upload, as stated its at 13kb/s im on 1.5mbit so it is fine in that circumstance.

Re: connection dies ?

If you can't limit the speed, can you limit the number of physical connections?

I have noticed that Azureus is built in Java. Java is slow at the best of times, You might want to try BitTorrent++ to see if the same things happen?

Edit: Blimey... Just checked the screenshots... Looks erm.. comprehensive
